Smashed up ex-girlfriend's car

Richard Staley attacked his ex-girlfriend's car with a metal baseball bat.

A MANSFIELD man who smashed up his ex-girlfriend's car –– and injured his arm in the process –– has been bailed by magistrates.

Richard Staley (31), of Cromwell Street, admitted causing criminal damage when he hit the Vauxhall Astra with a aluminium baseball bat on 27th September.

The court was told on Friday that his ex-partner had been out shopping with his mother when they returned for drinks at his home at around 6pm.

An argument flared up between Staley and his ex-girlfriend before he left the house and struck the car with the bat, breaking the windscreen and damaging the bonnet.

In mitigation, the court was told that he was angry at her but did not want to vent his frustration on her –– so he 'irrationally unleashed' his anger on the vehicle.

Staley was bailed to appear in court again on 25th October.
